MG Philippines has unveiled the newest iteration of its MG 5 sedan, and it promises to deliver everything its predecessor offered — only better, sharper, and more equipped. Meet the MG 5 Prestige.

Debuting at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show under MG's "Next Wave" campaign, the MG 5 Prestige made its motor show debut as the brand's latest sedan designed to deliver style, comfort, and everyday practicality. We took a deep dive in

A facelift that runs deep

The MG 5 Prestige is essentially a facelift of the subcompact sedan, drawing from the facelifted Roewe i5 that debuted in China back in 2021. It trades the outgoing model's elegant looks for a more aggressive appearance, characterized by a slimmer front grille and reshaped headlights, while the taillights have been enlarged as well.

The exterior is further highlighted by automatic projector LED headlights with daytime running lights, paired with 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels that enhance its dynamic and modern stance.

Size-wise, the model measures 4,607 mm in length, 1,818 mm wide, and 1,489 mm in height, dimensions that place it comfortably in the compact sedan segment without feeling cramped. A 2,680 mm wheelbase translates to improved cabin space and ride comfort, and the sedan comfortably seats five passengers, complemented by a spacious 512-liter trunk capacity, making it one of the most practical options in its class for everyday use.

The same engine, but better refined

The MG 5 Prestige is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 110 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, paired with a CVT transmission. While the numbers are carried over from the outgoing model, the engine has been retuned to meet stricter standards. It meets Euro VI emissions standards and is tuned to deliver the kind of smooth, efficient performance expected from a daily-use sedan.

This isn't a sporty powertrain, nor does it claim to be. What it offers instead is a measured, predictable driving experience, which is exactly what Metro Manila traffic demands day in, day out.

An interior that’s a step up from before

If the exterior has been given a makeover, the interior has been reimagined. The interior now wears a sleeker appearance more in line with the rest of MG's newer products, featuring a new layout and a tablet-style infotainment screen.

Synthetic leather upholstery gives the cabin a more premium feel, while rear air-conditioning vents ensure that passengers in the back aren't left sweating it out. Rounding out the practicality side of things is a reverse camera, which makes city parking and tight maneuvers significantly less stressful.

Then there's the sunroof. The power sunroof adds a premium touch and brings more light and openness into the cabin, and at this price point, its inclusion is genuinely surprising. It's the kind of feature you'd expect to find on a car costing significantly more, and it goes a long way in making the MG 5 Prestige feel less like a budget buy and more like a considered, well-appointed vehicle. Speaking of price, we’ll talk more about that next.

Smart tech features where it matters

For a sedan sitting under the P900,000 mark, the technology on offer inside the MG 5 Prestige is difficult to fault.

The centerpiece of the tech package is the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This system is then complemented by a six-speaker sound system.

Safety technology is also part of the package. A reverse camera is included as standard equipment, taking some of the guesswork out of parking in tight urban spaces.

On the outside, automatic projector LED headlights with daytime running lights handle visibility duties, offering sharper, more focused illumination compared to the halogen setups still common in this segment.

A price that’s truly compelling

The MG 5 Prestige is priced at P888,888, just P10,000 more than the outgoing model's top-spec Style variant. For what you're getting, that's a remarkably thin premium to pay.

At that price, the MG 5 Prestige positions itself as a value-driven sedan with features typically found in higher segments. If you've been on the fence about going for a proper three-box sedan as your next daily driver, this might be the one that finally tips the scales.
