MG Philippines makes its presence known at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show with the launch of the new MG 5 Prestige. Just so you don’t get confused, the MG 5 we have here in the Philippines is based on the Roewe i5, while the global MG 5 model is called the MG GT here. This evolution of the MG 5 comes to our shores carrying a refreshed face, a more modern cabin, and enough upgrades to make the predecessor feel like a distant memory.

Starting with the looks, the facelifted MG 5 ditches the old grille in favor of a cleaner, more modern, and angular front end. The redesigned hood now incorporates two creases converging at the MG badge, while the headlights adopt a new light signature. At the rear, the taillights extend beyond the quarter panel and onto the trunk, sitting above a restyled bumper.

Step inside, and the cabin tells a similar story. Interior modifications are subtle but focused on improving user experience, featuring a thinner dashboard design with decorative accents and synthetic leather elements for a more premium feel. All trims now include a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, alongside Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Under the hood, the MG 5 carries over its 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 108 hp and 142 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT. It's not a powerhouse by any stretch, but in a segment where efficiency and daily usability matter more than outright performance, it gets the job done. Size-wise, the MG5 measures 4,601 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width, and sits on a 2,680 mm wheelbase, making it one of the roomier options in its class.

Safety is adequately covered with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard. The new model also introduces updated driver aids as standard, which include a reverse camera, cruise control, and a tire pressure monitor.

The MG5 goes up against familiar names in the Philippine market. It's a tough crowd, but the MG 5 has always made a case for itself through generous features at a competitive price point.

Speaking of competitive prices, the MG Prestige is priced at P888,888 for the sole variant. However, for a limited time only, MG is offering a P20,000 Cash Discount, a P70,000 low downpayment promo, and one free PMS.

The MG 5 Prestige wasn't the only car to be showcased in MG's booth; the brand also provided a first look at the upcoming G50 PHEV. The G50 PHEV brings PHEV tech to MG's people mover, which gives it a claimed 95 km of range on pure EV mode and 1,415 km of combined driving range with the internal combustion engine.

The PHEV system of MG's people mover develops 295 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Inside, it comes with premium features like captain's chairs, a panoramic sunroof, and dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.

Though it's just a preview, MG Philippines has revealed that the G50 PHEV will be available for just P1,398,000. Plus, for a limited time, MG Philippines will offer a minimum P1,000 reservation fee along with a 7 kW wall charger upon the release of the unit. Should delivery of the unit be delayed, an instant P10,000 discount will be applied, along with an additional P10,000 for every month of waiting in case of delays.

The MG 5 Prestige is now on sale at all MG dealerships, while the G50 PHEV is now available for reservation. If you want to learn more about these cars, visit the MG Car Guide on AutoDeal.com.ph.
